Celebrating hope and creating conversation

Matt Tanner on June 18, 2018

What a day!

Saturday was HOT! But the heat didn’t keep people from coming out and supporting the first Roll Out of Darkness ride and walk. The event was the brainchild of Foundation Board Member David Arnold. Nearly 100 registered to walk or ride in support of starting a conversation to prevent suicide.

The morning started with Chris Burd Tanner presenting information about the Rollfast Foundation and how there are many opportunities to “Close the Gap” in Indiana, including suicide prevention. Following Chris, two messages of hope were told by Catherine Burd Ochoa and David Arnold. They shared about their parents and created conversation to help stop the stigma associated with suicide.

And just like that, the walkers and bicycles were off! Walkers completed a 1 mile loop around a peaceful pond and wooded area while the bikes took to the neighborhood streets. Conversation was encouraged and by all reports, the routes were fun, relaxing and “just right”.

Back at Creekside Middle School, Tyner Pond Farm provided hot dogs while Pedego Bikes gave out free e-bike test rides. The music continued and a perfect day was enjoyed by all.

Photos from the day can be found at: https://rollfast.us/rollfast-foundation/roll-out-of-darkness/ride-walk/

We want to thank all that participated and donated to the day. If you couldn’t attend but would like to contribute a donation, you can do so online at: https://rollfast.us/campaigns/roll-out-of-darkness-program/

We are also looking for stories of hope. If you have had struggle in your life, from addiction to just trying to raise your kids, we want to hear about it and share it with others that are struggling so they do not feel alone. Share your story with us! https://rollfast.us/rollfast-foundation/share-your-story/

What’s next?

We are fast approaching our biggest fundraiser of the year. The Rollfast Foundation is hosting a dinner banquet to continue the fight against suicide. We have secured a speaker that you might have recently seen making the media and news tour. His name is Kevin Hines. His story is incredible and his message brings hope to all. Drew Blair will emcee at the event.

Tables are available and provide recognition for organizations at the event. Individual seats may also be purchased on our website at: https://rollfast.us/rollfast-foundation/roll-out-of-darkness/roll-out-of-darkness-banquet/.
